Pinda Swed
Fomentation with warm herbal boluses (pottali) over muscles and joints. It reduces stiffness, heaviness, and neuromuscular pain, and is often used in paralysis rehabilitation.
About this treatment
Pinda Sweda uses cloth boluses filled with herbal mash, shashtika rice, or other prescribed contents, heated and applied with rhythmic strokes after oiling. Patrapinda (leaf bolus) is common for pain and Kapha-Vata stiffness. Shashtika shali pinda is more nourishing for wasting and paralysis. The choice is clinical, not cosmetic.
At Vishwashree Clinic this therapy is used for frozen shoulder, lumbar and cervical tightness, heaviness of limbs, and selected Pakshaghata cases. Heat, pressure, and time are adjusted so inflamed hot joints are not aggravated. It pairs naturally with Abhyangam and Basti.
Who it may help
- Muscle stiffness, heaviness, and restricted movement
- Frozen shoulder and chronic joint tightness
- Neuromuscular pain after the acute phase
- Rehabilitation support in stable paralysis
Care at Vishwashree Clinic
Open wounds, high fever, and very Pitta inflamed joints may exclude this heat. You should feel warmth and relief, not burning. Rest and keep the body covered afterwards so Vata does not return with a cold blast of AC.
- Bolus type chosen for pain versus nourishment
- Oiling first, then rhythmic fomentation
- Course of sittings for lasting change
- Home heat and movement guidance
