Kati Basti
Warm medicated oil held over the lumbar spine in a dough ring. It is a focused therapy for lower backache, sciatica, and stiffness from long sitting or Vata imbalance.
About this treatment
Kati Basti is a local oleation in which a ring of dough is sealed on the lower back and filled with comfortably hot medicated oil for a set time. The oil is kept warm so the lumbar muscles, facets, and sacral region receive both Snehana and mild Swedana. It is widely used for Katishoola, sciatica-type radiation, and stiffness after travel or desk work.
At Vishwashree Clinic the oil (often a Vata-hara taila) and duration are chosen after examining straight-leg raise, posture, and whether pain is inflammatory or degenerative. Kati Basti is often combined with Abhyangam, Kati pichu, or a Basti course for deeper Vata. It is not a substitute for emergency care if there is saddle anaesthesia or progressive leg weakness.
Who it may help
- Chronic lower backache and morning stiffness
- Sciatica and disc-related lumbar pain in a stable phase
- Pain after long two-wheeler or desk hours
- Spondylosis without acute neurological emergency
Care at Vishwashree Clinic
A course of several sittings is more useful than one. After the oil is removed, you rest and avoid lifting and cold exposure. Simple back-care rules are given so the relief lasts through the week.
- Dough ring and warm Vata-hara oil
- Timed pooling with monitoring of heat
- Often paired with massage or Basti
- Posture and walking advice for home
