The rainy season can bring relief from summer heat and still unsettle the body: gas, backache, stiffness, and a mind that does not settle. Ayurveda assigns much of that to Vata. Basti — medicated enema as a planned Panchakarma, not a home shortcut — is classically the most important karma for Vata when the person is fit for it.
There is Niruha (decoction) and Anuvasana (oil), given in a sequence the physician designs. Basti is used in selected cases of constipation with Vata, lumbar pain, some neurological complaints, and depletion — always after examination. It is not a general “detox enema” sold as a day package.
At Vishwashree Clinic, Basti is never the first sentence of the consult. We look at Agni, strength, and whether Snehana and Swedana should come first. Aftercare — warm food, rest, and avoiding wind and exertion — decides how well the karma holds.
If a previous doctor has mentioned Basti, or your joints and bowels worsen every monsoon, ask us whether you are a candidate. The answer should be specific to you, not to the season alone.
